Short Biography

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel received his PhD and MSc degrees from Imperial College Science, Technology and Medicine in 1998 and King's College London in 1993 respectively after graduating from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Eastern Mediterranean University in 1992. He joined the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Eastern Mediterranean University, as an Assistant Professor in 2000. He has served as the Vice chairman of the department from 2003 to 2005 and from 2007 to today. He was appointed as Associate Professor in 2008. He has been working in the field of Image Processing and he is currently involved in many research projects related to face recognition/ tracking, facial expression analysis, low-bit rate video coding. He has been the deputy director of the Advanced Technologies Research and Development Institute. Furthermore, he is the member of the Executive Council of the EMU Technopark.
